Hello and thank you for looking at this beautiful handmade and hand painted House Sign.
PLEASE NOTE: Once you have placed an order I will contact you to find out what information you would like on your sign, what colour you would like your text and any other information I may need to complete your order.
Each House Sign is made to order by me in my little workshop at my home in Nottinghamshire with my dog Ted snoring in the background.
Size is 16cm x 31cm approx.
Each sign takes 2-3 weeks to produce start to finish and here is why...
DAY 1 - 12mm hardwood ply is cut to size and sanded. Wooden moulds are then cut to size, glued and clamped in to place. I then allow the glue to set overnight.
DAY 2 - A 6mm wooden trim is cut to size and glued around the outside of the frame to hide the joins which gives the frame a nice finished look. The glue is then allowed to set overnight.
DAY 3 - The frame is inspected for any gap and filled in where necessary, any gaps will allow water to get through the wood and your sign won't have as long a life as it should.
DAY 4 - After the filler has cured the frame gets another good sand and the first coat of wood primer is applied to the front and sides. This is then left overnight to cure.
DAY 5 - The fame has another good sand with a really fine sandpaper and then another coat of wood primer is applied.
DAY 6 - The back of the frame is sanded and has its first coat of wood primer.
DAY 7 - With fine sandpaper, the frame has another sand and it's final coat of wood primer is applied and left to cure over night.
DAY 8 - The frame is given at least two coats of your chosen colour. After the first coat has dried the frame is given a fine sand before the second coat goes on. If the frame requires a third coat it will have another light sand in between coats.
DAY 9 or 10 (depending of drying times) - The frame is given it's first coat of varnish in your chosen finish to the front and sides.
DAY 11 - The frame is given a final coat of varnish and allowed to cure for 24 hours.
DAY 12 - The back of the frame has it's first coat of varnish.
DAY 13 - The last coat of vanish is applied to the back and left to cure for 24 hours.
DAY 14 - SIGNWRITING DAY!!! This is the day that I draw on the text using a Stabilo Chinagraph pencil to make sure the spacing and text height is correct and then once I am happy I hand paint the lettering with a sable hair brush and oil based enamel paints.
DAY 16 - After a few more days of letting everything cure, your sign is ready to be posted.
Obviously this a rough timescale, drying times can vary depending on atmospheric conditions and I also take a day off here and there :-)
I will also send a computer placement mockup of the lettering for your approval before work begins on your sign to make sure you are happy with the proposed placement.
Images of the font styles and font colours can be found on this ad. I also take custom orders, so if you would like a different size, design or colour, please pop me an email to signwritingbykeely@gmail.com
For this sized sign I recommend a maximum of 2 lines of lettering and 8 characters per line.
Any questions, please get in touch.
Thank for looking! Keely (and Ted)
